The Steps to TPRS® as easy as 1, 2, 3 1. SHOW Teach new language structures 4Convey meaning! -Verbally, with an action or gesture, with a picture -Remember, it’s not a guessing game like charades! 4Follow up with a visual if you haven’t shown one yet. 4Attach a gesture. † Approx. time: (2 to 5 min.) 2. TELL 4PQA & PMS 4Use language creatively. 4Focus on STUDENTS’ interests / sense of humor. 4Tell & retell: Circle, circle, circle! 4Incorporate culture whenever possible. † Approx. time: (40-55 min.) 3. READ! 4Read a written version of the PMS. 4Focus should be on the language structures, not on the story itself! 4To gage your students’ mastery of new vocabulary, read a short, simplified version of the PMS. If students can read and understand with ease, move on to a longer, embellished version of the PMS. 4Read, read, read! - Read anything and everything that is age and level appropriate! † Approx. time: 3-10 min.: (Increase time by assigning reading homework.) |
