Intermediate Beginner Spanish Class in Punta Cana
This class is designed for students (ages 15 and up) who
have some limited previous experience with Spanish, either via informal contact or
formal instruction. The purpose of the class is to help students gain real,
useable communication skills via a variety of cutting edge
strategies, proven to be effective with all types of learners. We
welcome all perceived language abilities and will
prove to you (regardless of your previous track record in Spanish) that if you
learned your first language, you CAN learn another!
If you
are thinking of taking this class, but not sure if you know enough Spanish, this
is probably a perfect class for you. The instructors will err on the side
of the beginners in the class. If you are a beginner but very motivated,
you will likely do fine.
The goals and objectives of the class are as follows:
Students will be completely engaged and thoroughly entertained as they acquire…
• high-frequency vocabulary structures, based on the list of the top 500 words used in the language.
• strong listening comprehension skills within the realm of vocabulary structures taught.
• listening comprehension of various word roots and word families.
• verbal proficiency within realm of vocabulary structures and topics taught.
• understanding of Latino culture and current social issues.
Students will NOT:

• experience grammar drills.
• take notes (unless they choose to do
so)
• be put on the spot or embarrassed in front of the class.
• basic phonetic sounds of the language (NOT the alphabet)
• basic greetings / common courtesies
• numbers 1-10
• at least 3 colors
• days of the week
Who should NOT take
this course?
• Native speakers, even if it has been a while
•
Those who can understand Spanish but want to brush up on Speaking skills
•
Those who already speak Spanish but wish to read or write better
• Recent
high school/college students who have more than a year of Spanish classes
This course is very
verbal, and although students will come away with good basic communication
skills, it would be too repetitive for anyone who has had more than basic
contact with the language.

If you can understand 40-50% or more and it takes some effort to read it, you are probably just right for this class. Again, remember that we will err on the side of the more beginning students. We strive to make the course 100% comprehensible for everyone, regardless of ability or level.
