In-service and Area Workshop Information

Thank you for your interest in TPR Storytelling. Since 1993, the experts at TPRS Publishing, Inc. have specialized in training foreign language, bilingual education and ESL teachers and trainers in the use of communicative methodology and curricula for language instruction at all grade levels. Our in-services are based on our multi-award-winning workshops, but are tailored to meet the specific needs of individual schools and districts. All in-services are presented by trained speakers experienced in the use of TPR Storytelling in their own classrooms.

3-day In-service Description

DAY ONE

                 Learn a Target Language

What is an Area Workshop?

An Area Workshop is a workshop that is planned and organized by a workshop host, which may be an individual, a committee, a school, school district or other educational institution.

What are the Host's Responsibilities?

* Make contacts and invite area teachers via phone, fax, mail or e-mail.

* Distribute registration forms and fliers (provided by TPRS Publishing Inc.).

* Ensure a minimum of 25 paying participants.

* Arrange for a workshop site and AV equipment (overhead projector/screen, large TV/VCR).

* Prepare refreshments for workshop (typically include water, coffee, juice, bagels/pastries).

* Assist the presenter in locating lodging and ground transportation.

What are the Workshop Presenter's Responsibilities?

* Maintain communication with host to monitor workshop enrollment.

* Process registrations and collect any fees involved.

* Present a standard 7-hour TPRS workshop.

* Compensate the workshop host within 14 days from date of workshop.

All in-services and Area Workshops include informational handouts and readings along with two- to four-week sample lesson plans (available in Spanish, French or English). About Our Presenters

Carol Gaab 
A seasoned presenter, Carol Gaab has been presenting TPRS workshops and in-services for national and international schools and universities since 1996. Carol also presents for the Bureau of Education and Research and is known for presentations that are highly engaging and practical.  A master teacher, Carol has 15 years experience teaching second language, including Spanish at all levels and ESL for various major league baseball clubs.  Her clients have included the SF Giants, Oakland A’s, CO Rockies, AZ Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers. In addition to writing articles published in educational journals, Carol has written and published TPRS training materials and curricula for elementary through high school students. President of TPRS Publishing, Carol also serves as a TPRS consultant/editor for various textbook publishers.

Susan Gross 

   A master teacher, Susan Gross taught all levels of Spanish and French during her 33 years in the classroom. She received the following awards: SWCOLT "Excellence in Teaching," CCFLT "Genevieve Overman Service to the Profession," and her school's "Teacher of the Year." She served as president of CCFLT, Board member of SWCOLT, as well as various offices in many other professional organizations. Susan has written numerous articles, which have been published in professional journals across the nation. She also translated and edited a variety of foreign language materials. Susan's compelling sessions are always well received.

 

 Kristy Placido 

A master teacher with 10 years' experience and an expert webmaster, Kristy Placido has used TPR Storytelling with Spanish students at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Kristy provides TPRS training to foreign language teachers across the country in addition to teaching high school Spanish full time in Fowlerville, MI. She has co-authored two TPRS student textbooks: Cuéntame Aún Más and The NEW Cuéntame Más. Technology is one of Kristy's passions.  She enjoys developing websites, training teachers to use technology, and integrating technology into her own classroom. She is proud to be the co-founder of the moreTPRS list.  Kristy also holds a Masters degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University and is currently studying Educational Technology at Grand Valley State University.
